While Anushka Sharma’s Paatal Lok is receiving praises from all quarters, several complaints have been filed against the actress because of the series. A few days ago, a legal notice was issued to Anushka for hurting sentiments of the Gorkha community in a particular scene on the show. Now a BJP MLA, Nandkishore Gurjar, has filed a complaint against the producer for using his photo in the show without his permission. The politician has demanded a case be filed against the actress under National Security Act for causing communal stir.
In his complaint, the MLA from Uttar Pradesh’s Loni has said that Paatal Lok shows castes in Sanatan Dharma and different Hindu agencies in a negative light, which is ‘anti-national’.
Gurjar’s photo has been used in a scene in Paatal Lok in which Balkrishna Bajpayee, who is a negative character in the show, is shown to be inaugurating a national highway. The original picture also features other BJP leaders including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The politician also said that the web series shows Gurjars as dacoits and people associated with mal-practices. He added that the web series tries to create differences among different castes in India, like the Jats of Punjab, Brahmins and Tyagis. Gurjar also claimed that the usage of casteist slurs in the show indicates that certain castes are of a lower stature in the society, which will cause further stir among people.
Nandkishore Gurjar said that the series tries to malign the Bhartiya Janata Party’s image. He also claimed that the series tries to create a terror-free image of Pakistan, which insults India in the world’s eyes.
In his complaint, the MLA has demanded a case has to be registered against Anushka Sharma under the National Security Act for instigating communal stir. He also said that the Amazon Prime Video series Paatal Lok should be banned.
