The Bhopal Police Crime Branch has registered a case against senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh for sharing a fake video involving Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Some Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders lodged a complaint against the Congress leader soon after the video shared by Singh went viral on Twitter.
Cases have been registered against Singh under sections 465, 501 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The Madhya Pradesh chief minister had earlier warned that action will be taken against people who share it.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan said legal action would be taken against people who were found sharing the video clip.
Digvijaya Singh shared the video on Twitter despite the strict warning but deleted it as soon as the controversy escalated.
BJP leaders slammed the fake video and said it has been released to “confuse the public”. They blame Digvijaya Singh for curating the edited video.
Digvijaya Singh has not yet issued a statement on the matter.
