Cristiano Ronaldo pips Lionel Messi at the post to become world’s only billionaire footballer

Cristiano Ronaldo earned USD 105 million before taxes and fees in the past year, landing him at No. 4 on the 2020 Forbes Celebrity 100, one spot above his Barcelona great Lionel Messi.

Cristiano Ronaldo has joined the billion-dollar club which makes him the only footballer in the history of the sport to achieve the landmark. The Juventus star is also the first to do so in a team sport.

Ronaldo is only the 3rd player to achieve the feat while still playing. Golf great Tiger Woods and boxer Floyd Mayweather were the other athletes to reach the milestone.

According to Forbes, Ronaldo has made USD 650 million on the pitch during his 17-year career and is expected to reach $USD 765 million in career salary with his current contract, which ends in June 2022.

The Portugal forward is also the most-followed sports star in the world on Facebook and Instagram.
