Amar Singh passes away: PM Modi, Akhilesh Yadav and others condole death of SP leader

Former Samajwadi Party (SP) general secretary Amar Singh passed away on Saturday evening after a prolonged illness. He was 64. Singh took his last in Singapore after being hospitalised there for a long time. He had reportedly undergone a kidney transplant and was facing health-related issues for over a decade.

Tributes and condolences poured in as soon as the news of Amar Singh’s demise broke out. Several top political leaders extended their condolences and expressed grief on Singh’s death.

Calling Amar Singh an “energetic public figure”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “In the last few decades, he [Amar Singh] witnessed some of the major political developments from close quarters. He was known for his friendships across many spheres of life. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his friends and family. Om Shanti.”

President Ram Nath Kovind‘s office tweeted: “Sad to hear of the demise of senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP, Shri Amar Singh. A man of many parts, Singh was an able parliamentarian. Condolences to his family, friends and well-wishers.

Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu also mourned Amar Singh’s demise. He said: “I mourn the sudden demise of Rajya Sabha MP Shri Amar Singh. In this hour of grief, I express my heartfelt condolences to his family and associates and pray to god for the peace of the departed soul. Om Shanti!”

Expressing sorrow, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted: “I feel sad on the demise of senior leader and MP Shri Amar Singh. He had maintained friendship with all parties. May God give peace to Amar Singh ji who was always high-spirited and energetic nature. My condolences to his heartbroken family.
