Congress leader and Maharashtra Energy Minister Nitin Raut has reignited the political controversy with his jibe at NCP chief and former Defence Minister Sharad Pawar. He said the veteran politician should have advised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on India-China border tension instead of reminding the Congress of 1962-war.
Raut even took a swipe at Sharad Pawar for “not rectifying” the mistake made in 1960s during his tenure as the defence minister. Sharad Pawar was the defence minister in the Congress government of PV Narasimha Rao during 1991-93.
Referring to Sharad Pawar’s statement, Nitin Raut has said, “When China captured our territory in 1962, the situation was different. “He has affection for the Congress in his mind but he only knows in what context he spoke about Rahul Gandhi”, Raut added.
The Congress is a constituent of the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition in Maharashtra and is part of the government in alliance with Shiv Sena and NCP.
